Brothels and Fundamentalism
This body of work examines the uneasy peace between Islamic fundamentalism and profanity in the brothels of Pakistan. Pakistan’s little known sex industry survives under a blanket of modesty, pretense and oppression. This isolation with its inner conflicts drew me in. The sexual natures of their business interest me less. I find the women proud despite their stigma, yet modest in keeping with their Islamic upbringing; a woman sits on her bed, a madam. She recently sold her 14-year-old daughter’s virginity. (from Kate Orne's webpage)

Cheguei a esta fotógrafa através do showcase Women in Photography... enervam-me as distinções de género, na arte ou em qualquer outro campo, principalmente as distinções politicamente correctas e bem intencionadas. Abri a página cheia de desconfiança e cepticismo, encontrei esta e outras fotógrafas excepcionais, mas também me deparei com projectos para os quais não tenho paciência nenhuma. De qualquer forma, continuo a sentir aversão à ideia de que faz sentido haver algo chamado "mulheres na fotografia", tal como sou contra as cotas no parlamento e reviro os olhos sempre que vejo anúncios a um canal chamado "sic mulher" (sim, é mesmo um assunto que me irrita)... mas devo deixar esta discussão para outro post.
Kate Orne, independentemente de ser mulher, é uma artista com uma sensibilidade que me comoveu, vale a pena passar pela sua página e perder uns momentos com as suas fotografias.

quero comer mais vezes os croissants com chocolate da Bénard; ter dinheiro para revelar todos os rolos que me apetecer; não tropeçar quando decido usar saltos altos (começo a não ter idade para cenas dessas); noites quentes no verão; uma sessão de cinema tripla dedicada ao Padrinho (com pipocas!); voltar a Colónia; encontrar as palavras certas entre as milhares que conheço e escrever duas páginas todos os dias; bons concertos sem miúdas histéricas; encontrar aquele livro e ler os dois ou três inevitáveis que ainda não saíram da prateleira; ir mais vezes ao alentejo; encontrar um emprego do outro lado do mundo ou do outro lado da rua que não envolva direito fiscal; dizer o que me apetecer; escrever menos posts (anos com muitos posts são anos desgraçados); tricotar algo que não seja um cachecol; mais tardes dedicadas a parvoíces, de preferência numa esplanada com imperiais e amendoins; um ano melhor com muito tempo para não fazer nada, que isto não dura sempre e um dia vou ter saudades...

The Ingmar Bergman ArchivesBefore his death in 2007, Bergman gave TASCHEN and the Swedish publishing house Max Ström complete access to his archives at The Bergman Foundation, and permission to reprint his writings and interviews, many of which have never been seen outside of Sweden. Picture researcher Bengt Wanselius, who was Bergman’s photographer for 20 years, scoured photo archives all over Sweden, discovered previously unseen images from Bergman’s films, and selected unpublished images from the personal archives of many photographers. Text editor Paul Duncan gathered a team of Bergman experts as contributing editors—Peter Cowie and Bengt Forslund (for film/TV), and Ulla Åberg & Birgitta Steene (for theater)—who have researched and written a narrative that, for the first time, will combine all of Bergman’s working life in film and theater. Such is the depth of Bergman’s writings that most of the story is told in his own words.
