"The title of this exhibition, taken from an early B-side by Belle & Sebastian, is more than just a piece of poetic musing. McGinley does, in fact, know where his summers go. In the summer of 2007, for example, he traversed the United States with sixteen models and three assistants, shooting 4,000 rolls of film. From the resulting 150,000 photographs, he arduously narrowed down the body of work to some fifty images, the best of which are on display here at the gallery.

The inspirational images for the project were culled from the kinds of amateur photography that appeared in nudist magazines during the 60s and early 70s. McGinley would sit with his models and look through all of the ephemera of the period that he had collected, discussing with them the mood that he was hoping to capture that day. McGinley had chosen a very specific itinerary that would bring his troop through the incredible range of landscapes that are available across the US and carefully planned a battery of activities, sometimes orchestrating the use of special effects. He has always been quite fond of fireworks and fog machines and in this new work they play a major role."

"The light is composed of a glass, bell-shaped, vessel, that holds the LED light, circuitry, and solar panel. Wax holds the electronics inside the glass vessel and disperses the emitting light. Paper is suspended from the center of the circuitry, and as the strip of paper is blown, the light turns on. Feira de Fotografia

A Sociedade Lomográfica Portugal realiza a edição zero da Feira da Fotografia, que inaugura quinta-feira, 20 de Março de 2008, na Rua Diário de Notícias, nº 59 - Bairro Alto das 19h às 00h.

A feira estará aberta ao público entre dia 21 e 27 de Março das 17h às 21h.

Este evento tem como principal objectivo fomentar a troca de trabalhos entre fotógrafos e/ou lomógrafos, assim como a disponibilização de imagens a baixo custo, contribuindo para uma dinamização da actividade fotográfica de Autor e a sensibilização do Público para este género artístico.

A feira compor-se-á por um espaço de exposição de trabalhos de lomografia e fotografia que constituirá uma galeria de imagens disponíveis para aquisição, cuja versão final será impressa in loco , em várias dimensões possíveis (13cm x 18cm, 18cm x 24cm e 30cm x 40cm).

O custo das fotografias será de 10€, 20€ e 30€ correspondendo estes preços aos tamanhos 13 x 18, 18 x 24 e 30 x 40 respectivamente. Os trabalhos fotográficos serão disponibilizadas por fotógrafos convidados, focando-se especialmente em imagens extra - projectos ou sem continuidade, que normalmente constituem fotografias de grande qualidade que acabam por se manter desconhecidas.

"London-based Levitate Architects came up with this ingenious solution to a book storage problem and created a loft-like bedroom nestled under the roof of the top-floor apartment. Here's what Levitate's Tim Sloan had to say about the project:
The flat occupies part of the shared top floor of an existing Victorian mansion block. Our proposal extended the flat into the unused loft space above, creating a new bedroom level and increasing the floor area of the flat by approximately one third. We created a 'secret' staircase, hidden from the main reception room, to access a new loft bedroom lit by roof lights. Limited by space, we melded the idea of a staircase with our client's desire for a library to form a 'library staircase' in which English oak stair treads and shelves are both completely lined with books. With a skylight above lighting the staircase, it becomes the perfect place to stop and browse a tome. The stair structure was designed as an upside down 'sedan chair' structure (with Rodrigues Associates, Structural Engineers, London) that carries the whole weight of the stair and books back to the main structural walls of the building. It dangles from the upper floor thereby avoiding any complicated neighbour issues with the floors below."

A Polaroid anunciou recentemente que vai deixar de produzir filmes para as suas famosas máquinas instantâneas... esta notícia vem na sequência da nova estratégia da marca, que há um ano deixou de produzir máquinas fotográficas analógicas, e que está a dar os primeiros passos na fotografia digital.

(Pensar que daqui a uns anos todas as máquinas se vão reduzir à fotografia digital, imaculada, perfeita, asséptica... automatizada... sem espaço para o erro...a máquina digital é uma tentação, podemos tirar muitas fotografias, repetir, rever, ajustar, corrigir... mas uma maquina analógica tem sempre o encanto do resultado único, irrepetível, muitas vezes frustrante – quantos rolos estragados, fotografias desfocadas ou sem luz suficiente – mas quando sai bem, sai mesmo bem.)

Para todos os amantes da fotografia instantânea só há duas hipóteses: comprar todos os filmes que conseguirem encontrar ou reciclar a máquina (transformando-a numa máquina digital), para os interessados nesta última hipótese, carreguem neste link "Polaroid is dead, long live polaroid".
